ABOUT THE DESIGN
Context
On medium and long haul flights, passengers' economy class experience can be physically and psychologically uncomfortable. Space is limited and comfortable resting positions are largely ruled out due to passenger safety reasons. Much inconvenience that is experienced during air travel is caused by apparently small design details and by the way they interact with one another. In this project, the student tackled some of those aspects with a focus on the economy passenger seat so as to improve travel experiences for the growing number of air travelers.
Concept
AirChair focuses on a number of necessities and comforts air travelers are currently missing, including: ergonomically sound and safe access to facilities such as headphone outlets, in-seat Internet and email, the interaction between reclining passengers and those requiring leg space, the safe and clean storage of glasses during resting times and completely retractable arm rests.
