This department was incorporated in 1957 and named as the Industrial Arts Section of National Taiwan Academy of Arts, which was consisted of Products and Ornament Sections. In 1984, the Department was formerly separated into Crafts and Design, and the Ceramic was added in 1987. This is the first established department of crafts and design and dedicated to cultivate talents who have contributed to the profound foundation of future design development. In 1994, the Academy was upgraded to National Taiwan College of Arts, and reorganized the Industrial Arts Section to Industrial Arts Department, which was divided into Crafts and Design. Facing the more and more specialized trend in Crafts and Design, the Dept. of Crafts and Design and Dept. of Visual Communication Design were established in 2000. The College was finally upgraded and renamed as National Taiwan University of Arts in 2001.
