Universidad Iberoamericana
The University Iberoamericana is a private institution open to all faiths and nationalities. Its primary purpose is to form integrated rather than solely informed, human beings through intellectual growth and self-realisation. This implies creativity, the capacity to think critically, and the freedom to assert and establish one’s own goals.

We believe that design is an important factor of social development and should become an integral part of the multicultural and multiethnic Mexico of today. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to create awareness in our students of the importance of the design profession in the sustainable development of the country.

The first studies of Design in Mexico started at the University Iberoamericana, 50 years ago, thanks to the vision and enthusiasm of several people, among whom was Felipe Pardinas, who perceived the necessity to form capable professionals to be inserted in the industry in order to collaborate in the conformation of diverse objects that Mexican companies produced and sold in the 50’s. At the beginning, the school adopted the functionalism tendencies about design with a strong emphasis on workshops and an interesting exploration of other fields such as craft design, tool design and electrical appliance design.

In 1967 the School of Design was invited to participate with the Design Committee for the Olympic games “Mexico ‘68”. For this activity, students and professors collaborated with the Board, and the results were very significant.

In 1968 the Industrial Design’s curricula was reviewed and the Graphic Design degree initiated. By this time some Mexican Design Associations began to consolidate, and the School of Design at “The Ibero” collaborated actively with its conformation, and among these we could mention: The College of Graphic and Industrial Designers of Mexico (CODIGRAM) and The National Association of Design Education Institutions (ANIEDI).
