Roca, leader in the bathroom business worldwide, and Icsid Promotional member, Barcelona Design Centre (BCD), are launching the third edition of the International Roca Design Contest 2008-2009, which this year will be presented under the slogan "Jump the gap, design today while focussing on tomorrow".

Theme

"Jump the gap" is aimed at creative people who think towards the future while designing today. The organisers are looking for designs that can bring forth their vision of conceptually innovative bathroom products and solutions: new products, new spaces and/or new uses and functions.

Eligibility

The contest is open to product or interior designers and architects and product design, interior and architecture students from around the world.

• Entries may be individual or from a group of two people.
• Each person or group may participate in one project only.
• Student competitors are advised to obtain prior agreement from their educational department to participate.
• Judges, their families, studios and design teams, as well as members of pre-selection committees, may not compete.
• Participants must be under 35 as of January 1, 2009.
  

Awards

One project will receive a grand prize valued at €5,000 and up to nine more projects will receive a diploma.

Roca will present the winning project and the selected ones during 100% Design London in 2009 (United Kingdom).

Pre-selection committee

The pre-selection committee will be made up of representatives of the Roca Innovation Lab.

Jury

The jury is made up of a selection of industry professionals.

Registration

All participants must submit their application online in order to take part in the contest before December 31, 2008. In the case of a group of two people entry, each member participating must duly complete the registration form displayed on the screen.

Assessment criteria

The main assessment criteria for judging the projects will be:

• Conceptual quality and conceptual innovation
• Quality of presentation
• Proposals that fit in with the theme of the competition
• Unconventional proposals
