China Red Star Design Award is the only national design award that aims to encourage domestic enterprises' independent innovation, help create their own brandings and improve their products' competitveness in the international market.

Call for entries now closed

The call for entries for the China Red Star Design Award is now closed. Check back soon for results of the first jury screening.

Eligibility

Eligible products include:

• those developed and designed by Chinese domestic-funded enterprises or designers and are or will be batch sold in China and abroad. They must own independent intellectual property rights or are designs that don't infringe other artificial persons or individuals' intellectual property rights.
• products which have been sold in the past two years or will come into the market in next year.

Only one product can be submitted by each enterprise or designer.

Products that won a China Red Star Design Award in the past are not qualified to enter.

Prizes

The following prizes will be awarded:

• Best of the Gold Prize
• Gold Prizes (8)
• Best Originality Prizes (10)
• Excellent Prize
• Best Team Prize
• Best New Designer Prize

The best new designer will be selected from the designers of awarded products who has been working for less than three years.

Assessment criteria

Innovation: stresses on the integration of technology and art, effectively makes use of new technology, material and craft; possesses unique design concept, provides new problem-resolving methods, directs the trend of product development

Utility: is human oriented, possesses rational function and structure, and shows good performances of ergonomics, safety and duration

Economic Benefit: meets market demands, owns a good value for the price, helps to increase the enterprise's income and enhance its brand value

Environmental-friendliness: considers green, energy saving and recycling

Craft: makes good use of crafts and materials, and its quality meets the related domestic and foreign standards; it is suitable for mass production

Aesthetics: demonstrates a special style and harmonious appearance and color

Jury

The screening committee is composed of domestic and foreign experts.

About the China Red Star Design Award

Established in 2006, China Red Star Design Award is a yearly social award organised by Beijing Industrial Design Center(BIDC). In 2008, Red Star received 3146 products from 565 applicants which came from 13 provinces, 4 municipalities and Hong Kong. Since 2006, 54 famous experts from 12 countries and areas including Germany, USA, UK, Japan, Korea, China, China Hong Kong and China Taiwan have served on the juries of Red Star.
