DESIGN KOREA 2009
'Design Korea' is a biennial international design business event that started in 2003. Organised by Icsid Promotional Member Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP), the Festival aims to provide an introduction to the latest trends and information in the design business as well as an opportunity to expand design business networks. It consists of the World Best Design Exchange 2009, Design Korea 2009 International Conference, Legacy for the Future Design Award, B2B workshops and many other concurrent events.
Design Korea 2009 will be held in Incheon, Republic of Korea, from 2-8 December 2009. This year's exhibition will consist of nine zones, each representing the best design works of its kind, such as products of world-class corporations. As in the past, the World Best Design Exchange zone will display award winning entries from across the globe. 18 design awards from 16 countries participated in this zone in Design Korea 2007.

Keynote Speech: Designomics
Discuss the role and challenges of design in order to tide over the current economic crisis. What is the role of design in our society that is an answer in response to these demanding times? Research and analyse the influence of design in the process of creating, distributing and enjoying the wealth of a nation.
Session 1: Design for a Better Business
"The Economic Value of Design"
Introduce success stories and know-how of corporations that have overcome their losses from declining sales in the time of economic recession, and outline how they approach the way to the future.
Session 2: Design for a Better Life
"Social and Cultural Value of Design"
Introduce success stories of public facilities and city designs. Emphasise the role of design for 'low-carbon and green growth' and find out what design can do in order to organise a better cultural environment.
Session 3: Design for a Better Economy
"Design Policy for Global Sustainable Development"
Considering the design policy for sustainable development and design's openness to various cultures, discuss the social and economic role of design.

Design Korea 2009 International Conference
Design Korea 2009 International Conference will be held on 3-4 December 2009. On the first day of the conference, world renowned professionals will deliver speeches on the theme of "Designomics" (Design and Economics). The second day of the conference is co-organised with Icsid Promotional Member, Design Management Institute (DMI). Under the theme "Best of Class: Balance of Theory and Practice in Design Management," presentations will be made on studies selected from among the submitted papers.Conference dates

Good Design (GD) Selection
Product manufacturers, designers, and retailers are invited to enter their professionally designed products that have been sold for the past two years or that are to be sold in Korea or international markets.Call for entry
Call for entry is open twice a year.First half of the year:
Online Registration: 20 - 27 April 2009
Product Submission: 11-12 May 2009
Second half of the year:
Online Registration: 21-28 September 2009

Pre-selection committee
The committee is composed of about 50 professional designers covering seven categories of Good Design (GD) Selection. Mostly, they are designers of corporations, CEOs of design consultancies or professors of design institutes. The committee will screen the entries to ensure that they meet the requirements. Once the screening is complete, the pre-selection committee will also evaluate the finalists for the awards.Jury
The jury members will be invited among professional designers from Korea and abroad. It will consist of approximately 13 jury members, four or five or whom will be from the Icsid and Icograda executive boards.Prizes
- First prize: President's Award (Certificate, Trophy, 2,000,000 KRW)
- Second prize: Prime Minister's Award (Certificate, Trophy, 1,000,000)
- Third prize: Ministry of Knowledge Economy (Certificate, Trophy)
Many more certificates and trophies will be awarded to a total of approximately 65 finalists.
Announcement of winners
There will be the Good Design Selection Ceremony on 16 December 2009. It will be publicised through Korea's major newspapers and through the Ministry of Knowledge Economy's channels.Contact person

Exhibition
With the theme 'Design, Engine of Green Growth', the exhibition will display the Good Design award-winning entries from around the world by design companies or leading corporations with in-house design teams working in the area of public design.Submission deadline
