This year, with the theme of "Innovative Design and Leading Dongguan - Experience, Creativity, Optimization (Eco-Design)", Dongguan Cup Awards aims to discover outstanding design talents and help businesses connect to qualified design resources and partners.

Consisting of open group and enterprise group, Dongguan Cup Awards attracts global talents to participate in this long-standing event.

The event will include an exhibition of outstanding design entries, will take winning entrants to meet leaders of businesses sectors and participate in an industrial design summit, and will close with the awarding ceremony.

Open to those who are keen in design, whether they are students, working in industrial design or in production sector. Individual entry ONLY. Entrants may decide by themselves to apply for one or all of five categories.

No specific limitations for products of enterprises group. All products which can meet the requirements of the Awards will be accepted, including electronic information product, furniture, toy, machinery, shoes, and medical equipment, and so on.

Jurors will conduct on-site screening and select 250 projects.

Jurors will select 22 finalists out of 250 winning entries for the final selection.

22 finalists will be requested to attend on-site screening and give oral presentation on their projects. Jurors will score the model, design drawing, and presentation to choose respective awards winners. Final screening may be conducted with presentation of PowerPoint or audio / video files.

Dongguan City, an internationally renowned manufacturing center, is fast gaining new recognition in recent years as an important industrial design hub in China. As one of the core steps taken by Dongguan Municipality Government to further promote regional self-innovation and boost the upgrading of local industry structure, the annual Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Awards dates back to 2005 and comes to celebrate its 5th session this year.
       
Dongguan Cup Awards has been held by the hosts of Dongguan Municipality Government and China Industrial Design Association, and in partnership with Dongguan Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Dongguan Municipal Intellectual Property Rights Bureau, Guangdong University of Technology, and Guangdong South China Institute of Industrial Design.
       
With 10428 submissions in the past four sessions, Dongguan Cup Awards has now become a synonymous with outstanding design, value and quality in China industrial design circle. In the previous four years, there have been altogether 146 winning projects, 126 took awards in the open group (27 gold, 33 silver, and 66 bronze) and 20 took awards in the enterprise group.
       
Each year, since its debut in 2005, the total prize money for Dongguan Cup Awards, given by Dongguan Municipality Government, remains to be RMB1,000,000 (USD150,000), which is among the highest prize amount in the nation.
       
Each session an international jury reviews and evaluates the submitted products. This safeguards the fairness of the competition. The jury panel consists of famous designers and design experts from all over the world.
       
Since 2007, the Dongguan Cup Awards has been endorsed by Icsid, and was the third national event authorised to use "Endorsed by Icsid" logo.
