Seoul Design Fair 2010

Seoul Design Fair 2010 is a world design festival which is hosted by Seoul Metropolitan Government to establish Seoul as the centre of world design and commemorate being nominated for World Design Capital 2010. The theme of this year is 'Design for All' to make citizen to participate and enjoy the festival regardless of cultural background, age and sex. Seoul Design Fair 2010 also focuses the development of design industry, globalization of the design festival, and cultivates the concept of 'designomics' (design+economics).

Design Industry Exhibition


The Seoul Design Fair 2010 Overseas Design Industry Exhibition is a display of overseas design products that represent each country and will be beneficial to the development of international design products and will also be an opportunity to develop trade.

Seoul Brand Exhibition


"IT, the future vision of the Korean design industry – Makes the next generation of IT design more accessible so that more people can appreciate the value of design".

The Seoul Brand Exhibition provides an opportunity to experience the IT design process and various user environments in which they are used (UX). It will be true showcase for Korea's competitive IT design.

The fact that the pavillion used for this exhibition with its theme of IT design was designed by Alessandro Mendini, an Italian designer known as the master of analogue expression, will add great meaning to this event and symbolize Seoul becoming a world center of design that will usher in a new era in the design industry.

Living in Seoul - A themed exhibition


It aims to realize the design space for living dreamt among the people in Seoul through the exhibition of everyday articles such as furniture, lighting fixtures, and other goods proposed by domestic and international designers.

- Hosts planned events by inviting designers recommended by the Korean Society of Interior Architects Designers (KOSID), Korean Industrial Designer Association (KAID), Visual Information Design Association of Korea, and other domestic design organizations.

World City Design Exhibition


It aims to host a comparative exhibition on the design trends of the world's design cities, to revitalize the economy and create new cultures through design, and to share case studies on the development of the design industry.

- Linked exhibition on the world's best-designed waterfront cities and the 'Han River Renaissance' project.
- Exhibition to give a complete overview of the global trend in architectural design by inviting architects from Korea and abroad.

Design University Exhibition


This participation exhibition provides University design students with the opportunity to share their diverse experimental projects and their potential for progress with the local design industry. It also gives them a chance to measure their creative passion and potential as new designers.

The Citizens' Green Exhibition


With 25 municipalities within Seoul Metropolis and college students participating, they intend to realize sustainable green design and make it commercially viable so it can be used to generated proceeds with which to perform community sharing. By filling empty seats of the first and second levels of the Jamsil Main Stadium with green plants, it will transform the place into the Cititzen's Green Design Garden that represents the symbolic image of the Seoul Design Fair.

This ecological place will offer a place for rest and ecological experience and an opportunity for students to make their dream design a reality.

Idea and imagination experience hall


This program allows children to experience design as they play (Edutainment) and promotes basic design education and creativity enhancement.

This is a design experience village in which visitors can share joy, learn how to preserve the earth and capitalize upon academic achievements. Various content is displayed for experience based on imagination and creativity. It is a design exhibit that suggests a happy and comfortable life for Seoulites.

Design class for future artists


This design experience platform is for the whole family, incorporating various materials and design workshops to develop children's creative thinking and problem-solving capabilities. It also opens communications that can be shared by children with disabilities, able-bodied children, and children from multi-cultural families.

Children will benefit from this creative education for free and learn about design in day-to-day life and explore the many aspects of design. They will also be able to display and show off the designs they create as well as see other creations from childrens from other countries.

Design playground

This playground equipped with design creativity-stimulating rides helps children understand real-life design principles as they play.

An old and basic playground is transformed into a children's park with a brand new concept. It provides open learning space where display, play, and events are harmonized to maximize a child's experience through stimulating all five senses.

Design Seoul International Conference


The Design Seoul International Conference will be held from 17 Sept. to 18 Sept. 2010 as a representative academic event of Seoul Design Fair 2010.

Under the year's theme, "Design for All: Economy, Sharing, Future," this conference will suggest directions for development and visions of design in general and Design Seoul specifically as an advanced forum for sharing and discussing economic, social, and future values of Design by inviting leading designers and global leaders in the design field.
