World Industrial Design Day 2012

This year marks the 5th anniversary since the inception of World Industrial Design Day, which was created in 2007 on the occasion of Icsid's 50th anniversary.  To celebrate the milestone, the organisation is asking the global design community one simple question - What is industrial design?

In April, Icsid launched a social media campaign asking design professionals, students and enthusiasts to participate in a video challenge where they recorded their definition of industrial design in 10 seconds or less and uploaded it to YouTube.

Icsid received very creative responses to this challenge and no two definitions were identical. There were certain themes and ideas that were captured more than once, and its these common sentiments that have guided the creation of this montage video.

Icsid would like to thank all of those who participated in the video challenge and helped spread awareness of industrial design.

There are additional ways to celebrate World Industrial Design Day in your community. Download Icsid's "10 ways to celebrate" for more ideas or visit World Industrial Design Day's project pages for examples of activities you can host.
