MULTITOUCH-HYPERVISOR

About the design

Hypervisor: one of many hardware virtualization techniques that allow multiple operating systems to run concurrently on a host computer.

Multitouch: a system which serves to interact with computer hardware according to several contact points.

The Multitouch-Hypervisor is a supervision system equipped with an original interface with twin screens, one of which is touch sensitive.

The Multitouch-Hypervisor enables users to act and take decisions at local level, while retaining the capacity to grasp the overall situation. The system comprises twin screens, one of which is touch sensitive. The vertical screen (non touch sensitive) displays information and offers an overall view of the system while the horizontal screen (touch sensitive), is more specifically dedicated to action and offers a contextual view focused on the mapping. They are connected in such a way that if the user needs to obtain information presented on either screen, they can access it via a "connection" zone. The touch-sensitive interface can be offered on mobile media so enabling a cross-cutting relationship between supervision solutions centrally or in the field.

The touch-sensitive screen, which replaces the keyboard at the operator's workstation, is presented horizontally, making it more comfortable to use.

About the designers

Thales is the world leader in critical information systems on the defence and security markets for aerospace and transport.

Attoma is an agency specialised in service design and interaction.

In 2008, Thales called on Attoma's expertise in interaction design to come up with a user interface for the Thales Hypervisor solution. In 2011, as part of a research project, it called on the agency once again to explore the potential of multitouch screens in the context of supervision.

About Observeur du Design

Inaugurated in 1999 by the APCI (Agency for the Promotion of Industrial Creation), the Design Observer is an annual exhibition that aims to highlight and reward a selection of the best creations resulting from the collaboration between companies and designers.
