Q: IDMN Participants - Why join?
A: If you are a bona fide design media publisher, participation in IDMN can introduce your publication to a new, global audience. Participation can connect you with other publishers and help you better run your magazine and your business. Q: How was the IDMN formed?
A: At a meeting in June 2002 of design magazine editors and publishers at Icograda's Identity/Integrity conference in Brno, Czech Republic, representatives of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) and the conference's 23 media partners from around the world met to discuss common needs, challenges and opportunities. In the process, the idea of a mutually beneficial network of design media was born. Following discussions, Anne Telford, Managing Editor of Communication Arts magazine, was nominated to draft a proposal for Icograda's consideration. After careful consideration, the board of Icograda has acted to lend organisational and administrative support to this initiative, thereby creating the Icograda Design Media Network (IDMN).
At the September 2006 IDA Executive Committee meeting is Tshwane, South Africa, IDA partners Icograda and Icsid agreed that the media network should become a shared resource benefiting the global design community. The IDMN’s name became the International Design Media Network.
Q: What constitutes 'bona fide' media?
A: For the purposes of deciding on inclusion in the IDMN website listings and links, 'bona fide' means a genuine, established design publication with a subscriber base and/or targeted audience that includes designers. Bona fide media should be primarily editorial (not just advertising) and should contribute to the dissemination of knowledge, the sharing of information, and the raising of standards for the benefit of design and designers.

A: The IDMN operates as a virtual network. IDMN Participants are collectively be responsible for undertaking initiatives they wish to see accomplished.
Q: What opportunities does the IDMN provide?
A: IDMN is all about strength in numbers, about sharing with peers, and about finding win/win/win opportunities for mutual benefit - of design media, the design audience and readership, the IDA and its partners members. Some examples of collaboration that have been suggested by IDMN participants include:

- providing language translation assistance to each other (for captions, etc.. and refer local writers to each other.
- exchanging subscriptions and/or articles (according to needs and/or means available).
- providing each other with information on copyright protection and standardised reprint credit lines to encourage proper attribution of articles and to protect writers/creator copyrights.
Q: IDMN Code of Ethics - What is it?
A: IDMN Participants are guided by basic values that influence individual and collective conduct, demonstrate accountability, and are publicly defensible. These values are consistent with those adopted by the Icograda board and form the basis for ethical actions, mutual trust and cooperation amongst IDMN Participants. IDMN Participants agree to:
