Japan Industrial Designers' Association
The Japan Industrial Designers' Association was founded by 25 members in 1952. It is the sole national organization of industrial designers in Japan. We marked our 50th anniversary in 2002, and continue to develop new activities.
Major activities in its 50-year history include hosting the Icsid International Conference in Kyoto in 1973 and again in Nagoya in 1989. Activities have also extended to reach a broad range of nations overseas. Recently as its 50th anniversary event, JIDA has held various design forums and an exhibition on the history of Japanese industrial design, and has continued to initiate various activities to contribute to the promotion and development of design.
The JIDA membership is composed of freelance designers, in-house designers and other members involved in design education and promotion, but JIDA has recently started inviting students majoring in design and people who are interested in design to participate as friends of the association in various activities.
