The original establishment of the organization can be traced back to 1971. In 2004, the organization was re-launched as the  Israel Community of Designers and today includes designers in the fields of graphic design, industrial design and jewelry design.

The aims of the Israel Community of Designers are:
-promotion of design and understanding of design process
-furthering excellence in design
-organization of exhibitions, seminars and workshops
-improving the lot of the professional designer
-fostering communication within community
-representation of professional community towards government and industry
-contact with regional and international design entities
-collaboration with educational institutions
-advancement of sustainable design
-collaboration with other design fields

In 2007, the ICD established the annual series of Designed In Israel events that include exhibitions, conferences, the publication of catalogs and additional events. These events have had a significant impact on the public discourse concerning design in Israel.

Designed In Israel 08
an exhibition and catalog of 240 examples of current design in the fields of graphic design, industrial design and jewelry design

Designers of the Future 08
an exhibition and catalog of 56 final projects of students in graphic design, industrial design and jewelry design from all Israeli design schools

Ministry if Trade, Industry and Labor Prizes
an exhibition of the annual prizes in industrial design

The Economic Power of Design
a conference in collaboration with TheMarker financial magazine dealing with the business of design
