Three months following the official launch, the World Design Capital Organising Committee has extended the application deadline for the World Design Capital 2010 competition. Prospective cities may submit applications no later than Monday, April 16, 2007.

The World Design Capital competition will position the 2010 winning city to:

• Gain visibility as a centre of creativity and innovation
• Attract investors and creative people
• Strengthen knowledge-based economic development
• Improve quality of life within the city
• Establish itself as a leading city of design on the international stage
• Build a global image as a must-see travel destination
• Take part in an international network of design
• Foster pride amongst citizens
