Are you a creator of future product worlds?
Designers are playing a significant role in the creation of our future: It is a fact that over the last 85 years design has shaped the material world as strongly as technology. While technology has produced new concepts, new materials and new systems, it is design and architecture which make these concepts understandable and acceptable and which drive them forward through communication. Designers and visionary entrepreneurs cast a look on the world as it is now and imagine how it will be, because today basically anything is possible – from a technical point of view. There is only a lack of ideas for visionary applications of new technologies. This was fundamentally different only some years ago, when technical possibilities determined the product world. There was a lot of thinking going on, but very little could be realised directly. Today it is mostly about what we can imagine, because what is imaginable is often also possible. Therein lie great chances for designers, even if ideas have to – sooner or later – be measured on their ability to be realised; because an idea is nothing, if it cannot become manifest.

In concepts, our partly unconscious ideas of a close or distant future find their expression, take shape and become tangible and experienceable; and for some, thinkable and graspable in the first place.

Prove your innovative power!
The red dot award: design concept is about giving the creativity of designers and companies a stage. Here, ideas that have been successfully turned into products are presented with distinctions, and ideas and concepts for the future are put before a broad public. They thus enter the focus of public interest and the chance to find a company which is willing to realise such a concept also multiplies. In order to further accelerate this step, for the first time another prize will be awarded besides the red dot, the red dot: best of the best, and the red dot: luminary: The chemical company LANXESS will support the realisation of two winning concepts with the LANXESS prize worth US$7,500 each.

An independent international jury of experts will examine the submitted design concepts and only the best will receive a red dot award, the internationally recognised quality seal for good design. This is a challenge worth accepting, because receiving a red dot means belonging to the best in the world.
