2007 YOUNG DESIGNERS’ EXHIBITION
The Young Designers' Exhibition(YODEX)celebrated its 26th anniversary this year, after gradually developing into a unique exhibition for junior designers around the world. This major annual event in Taiwan, not only presents the innovations from young generation, but also provides an opportunity for emulation and to identify talented designers for the industry.
This year, YODEX also celebrated Icsid 50 and paid tribute to the role of Icsid in the development of industrial design around the world.
70 departments from 44 domestic design schools plus 12 international design schools to part in the event, along side more than eighty thousand participants.
Each school selected one design work to attend the press conference prior to the exhibition with stage performance to present their characters for the media.
At the opening ceremony for the event, YODEX invited Dr. Zhao-Yi Chen, director of Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), Ministry of Economic Affairs to make opening remarks. Following this, each participating school pasted its dream to a giant board in the centre of the stage. These ‘dreaming nets’ were utilised to catch the ideas of the participants and join them all. Once caught in the net, the dreams made a giant light bulb that was illuminated by Dr. Chen and Taiwan Design Center’s CEO and Icsid Board Member, Mr. Tony Chang. This gesture symbolised the unlimited innovations from students to accomplish their imaginations like a dreamer.
The theme of this year’s YODEX was graffiti design. The designing concept originated from the impression of street graffiti and extended to exaggerate the significance of the character. The subjects of other backgrounds composed with numerous complimentary graffiti. To further enhance the engagement of each participant, and shorten the gap between YODEX to students, we have organised “Innovative graffiti campaign” and coordinate “Heroic graffiti signature show”. TDC’s CEO Mr. Kuang-Ming Chang hosted the unveiling ceremony where all nominees were invited to sign their names for eternal memory.
