6TH GERMAN DESIGN CONFERENCE, ACCELERATION AND DESIGN

October 24th and 25th, 2007, in Berlin
Acceleration is a key-characteristic of today’s time. New products are reaching the market in ever shorter intervals, promising more functions – only to soon be replaced by even newer developments. How do the new time-parameters affect product-processes and stakeholders? At the conference entitled “acceleration and design” businesses, designers and scientists will discuss the effects of accel-eration on the design process, on product-development, and on customer-communication, and will present possible outlooks on future developments.

On the first conference day, the key focus will concentrate on the realignment of time and space in office environments, future mobility, the repositioning of a space af-fected by acceleration, as well as business trends in product-development. Are prod-ucts becoming more and more multifunctional, smaller and faster, or rather more re-duced and more emotional? The successful concurrence of innovation and design, the integration of “smart” applications, and possibilities of quality control despite shorter product-life-cycles will be highlighted.

On the second conference day, central focus will be given to the structure, presenta-tion and communication of information and new possibilities of customer loyalty and customer communication in the global marketplace. How can the innovative potentials of communities be effectively used, and how consumers receive the products that are truly tailored to their needs?

The 6th German Design Conference is presented by the International Design Center Berlin e.V. and the Rat fŸr Formgebung/German Design Council, Frankfurt. It takes place within the context of the design initiative of the German Industry under the um-brella of the regional initiative “Project Future”. Venue is the Haus der Deutschen Wirtschaft in Berlin.
