ENTRIES INVITED FOR THE MATERIAL VISION 2007 DESIGN PLUS PRIZE
For the second time, Messe Frankfurt will be presenting the Design Plus prize at the Material Vision, trade fair and conference (22 to 23 November 2007 in Frankfurt am Main), the theme of which will be materials for product development, design and architecture. With their partners, the German Design Council, the trade-fair company will be honouring products, which feature forward-looking materials, wither in their manufacture or production processes. Participation in the Material Vision is explicitly not required for participation in the Design Plus competition.
Entrie deadline: Product manufacturers from every nation and sector have until September 28 to register.
Dr. Michael Peters, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt said: “The aim of exhibitions, conferences and competitions like Design Plus is to provide an ever more interdisciplinary trade audience with access to new developments and content in the field of design. The Design Plus Material Vision competition, which is open to international entries, is the materials innovation sector’s only exclusively application-orientated competition. This means that the prize is not awarded just to the material but to the product, which is manufactured using new materials and manufacturing techniques.”
Andrj Kupetz, Managing Director of the German Design Council: “For a long time now, product design has been a more important if not decisive differentiation factor in the international market. The use of innovative materials is becoming increasingly important in design and s now a decisive, competitive advantage in product development. We expressly invite companies, designers and architects to take part in the Design Plus competition to put their design expertise and innovative powers to the test.”
Design quality, material selection, functionality, technical and ecological quality and overall concept are the criteria on which the interdisciplinary jury of experts evaluate the entries. Products which have been on sale in the marketplace for longer than two years are not allowed to take part and a market launch must be imminent.
A top-quality jury will sit on October 5 2007 to selct the prizewinners. The members of the jury are:

The Messe Frankfurt Design Plus competition is now one of Germany’s top design competitions. Since 1983, the Prize has been honouring products, which stand out from the rest not just because of their attractive exterior but also because they offer something extra in terms of design quality, the distinctive character of which is assured. The Design Plus Prize will also be awarded at the Ambiente, ISH and Light+Building trade fairs.
The Material Vision shows modern materials and material technologies in pre-product stage and specifically targets product developers, industry designers and architects. At the conference, designers and architects of world class will be discussing the latest material trends in product development and architecture. It is planed to hold Material Vision every year from 2207. For the first time, it will be presented in 2007 within the framework of ‘nanotech+material week Fankfurt’ (21 to 23 November 2007, Frankfurt am Main). This title bundles together the complementary strengths and networks of Nanotechnologieforum Hessen, Nanosolutions and the Material Vision into an international platform for nanotechnologies and new materials. As a result, nanotech+material week Frankfurt is Europe’s main event for technologies of the future. Go to www.nanotech-material-week.com for further information.
