Dongguan (China) - Under the auspices of Dongguan Municipality, China Industrial Design Association and China Patent Protection Association, organized by Guangdong University of Technology, Guangdong South China Institute of Industrial Design, and Dongguan Municipal Sci-Tech Bureau, the 2007 Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Awards saw a successful completion on October 18. More than 200 entries were on display during the Dongguan Sci-Tech Cooperation Week.

With the commitment giving new impetus to design innovation for better industry integration of Dongguan-based corporations, the 2007 Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Awards was again in the spotlight. For the past eight months, the Organizing Committee managed to call for entries on a worldwide basis and organize an authoritative jury panel consisting of experts and academic scholars at home and abroad for several rounds of review and selections. On October 18, the jury selected a total of 27 prizewinners for the Dongguan Cup 2007 open group categories and 5 for enterprise innovation category, followed by a grand final awarding ceremony at Dongguan International Conference and Exhibition Center Hotel, with an audience totaling 400 people from all sectors to witness this precious moment.

In total, 2432 entries submitted for the open group coming from China, Australia, India, Brazil and Singapore. The jury this year judged a total of 217 entries as short listed candidates after the first round selection, and among them 27 contestants went for the final selection on October 16. On the awarding ceremony, the head of Dongguan Municipality and Guangdong Univ. of Technology presented awards and prizes to all award winners, and bestowed prize money totaling RMB630,000 (sponsored by the Dongguan Municipality) on 32 entries, to be divided by gold, silver and bronze award-winners from open group categories and enterprise group category. In addition, the gold award winner will be offered with a shared-study trip to the Europe.

As one of the regular section of the Dongguan Cup Event, the 2007 Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Submit Forum played again a key role. Experts delivered inspiring speeches, attaching great importance to the prevailing design ideas with in-depth analysis of the latest development of industrial design from various points of view, and again underscored the role design innovation assuming in facilitating the regional economic development of Dongguan City. The speakers addressed an audience of about 400 and there came very positive feedbacks.
