Art Center College of Design is committed to taking a leadership role in sustainable mobility. The Art Center Summit: Systems, Cities & Sustainable Mobility will once again convene an influential group of visionaries, businesspeople, urban planners and government leaders for an examination of the relationships between mobility systems, cities and transportation.

Attendees will leave this empowering event ready to contribute to the formulation of a sustainable systems aproach to mobility. Seating for the Summit is limited to 100 leading industry participants.

To better understand sustainability and how it relates to design and mobility, Art Center has dveloped a series of five annual participatory Summits.. With an emphasis on the critical role designers play in the future of mobility and urban planning, this second event will build on lessons learned from the first Summit, Designing Sustainable Mobility.

Entrepreneur and environmentalist Paul Hawken, co-author of the gorundbreaking books Blessed Unrest, Ecology of Commerce and Natural Capitalism, will deliver the keynote address at the 2008 Art Center Summit.

PRE-SUMMIT: SUSTAINABILITY BY DESIGN

Whether you are new to the subject of sustainability, or simply want to learn more about the most current thinking on the subject, this one-day workshop will provide a concise review. Come just for the day, or as preparation for the Summit, as our speakers focus on systems, cities and sustainable mobility, and address the following questions:

  • What are systems, and how do they behave?
  • Can cities and communities provide a systems framework for sustainability?
  • What mobility solutions fit the systems model?
  • Can it work, and where is it being done?
Who should attend?
Students, faculty and professionals who are new to sustainability or are interested in learning more. Designers and practitioners who want to add valuable information to their ongoing study of sustainability, especially as it relates to mobility.
