Organised by Icsid Promotional Member, Barcelona Design Centre (BCD), as an international event for the promotion and debate about design, this 2008 edition was a success of in every way. This is showed not only by figures, but also by the opinion of those who took part in the congress. From the survey completed by the attendees, it was clear that the most successful sessions were "Global Trends", "Ecoinnovation: rethinking the strategy to differentiate" and the DME Congress. This feedback also rated the event's overall organisation very well.

Main findings of the BDW 2008
In addition to the positive figures of participation, a number of conclusions can be drawn from the presentations and the input of participating experts and professionals, such as William McDonough, Keiji Kawahara, Francesco Morace or David Griffiths, among others.

The following is a compilation of the most important ideas learned during the thematic sessions, which gave great importance to the need to keep a creative attitude for design thinking:

Design is one of the best resources / ways for Europe to compete with emerging markets (Session: DME Congress).

The macrotrends are a reflection of how the "genius loci" (talent) and the local culture are able to generate innovation (Session: "Global Trends").

The desire of users to live pleasant experiences and enjoy a greater comfort will have a notable influence on the interior design of the aerospace sector as well as on the mobility of the future (Session: "Synergy Design - Aerospace interior Design").

"Design for All" is an opportunity to export products to other markets and cultures, and it is also a chance to adapt to unfamiliar customers (Session: "Design and Users").

Tourism, one of the main Spanish economic sectors, has an opportunity to increase its market if it applies the "Design for All", critical for 10% of people, required for 40%, and comfortable for 100%. Source: Design for All Foundation. (Session: "Design and Users").

Eco-innovation is not only an ethical factor, but it is also a strategy that brings tangible benefits, such as reduction of expenses, the commitment of employees and the improvement of the profitability of the company (Session: "Ecoinnovation: rethink strategy to differentiate ").

The components of the various activities of this 2008 edition were held in the CaixaForum, the CosmoCaixa, the facilities of Barcelona Activa, the 22@ district, Barcelona and Mies van der Rohe Pavilion.
