RED DOT PRESENTS ITSELF IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Essen (Germany) - Some 80 red dot award-winning products from 19 countries, more than 30,000 visitors and a successful presence in a world market with future potential - the red dot exhibition "Design on stage - Index presents red dot winners" at the Index 2008 was a complete success.

For five days the red dot-winning companies presented themselves on the largest stand at the fair, after the Index 2008 had been officially opened by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, on 3 December. The Crown Prince also visited the red dot presentation.

"This market has great potential and is of special importance for red dot," explained Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award, head of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and Icsid Senator."Our task is the international promotion of design, and thanks to our co-operation with dmg world media we will further increase our involvement in Dubai and the Arab world in the coming years. Next year we will once again be present at the Index with numerous red dot-winning products," said design expert Peter Zec.

Several international guests attended the "red dot book signing ceremony" with Professor Dr. Peter Zec on 5 December in order to have the current red dot design yearbook 2008/2009 signed. A successful VIP event, the "red dot reception", took place on 6 December in the Bubble Lounge of the Dubai International Exhibition Hall. In his address to approximately 200 guests from industry and design, Peter Zec emphasised the significance of the region for the internationally successful design competition, the red dot design award. The "red dot reception" served as a platform for the exchange of ideas between exhibitors and international clients as well as guests of honour such as Professor Soon-In Lee, Managing Director of the Seoul Design Center, and Kristiina Lassus, owner of Kristiina Lassus Studio, Italy/India, who as design experts have been on the red dot jury several times.

About the trade fair
With an exhibition area of almost 36,000 square metres, the Index 2008 is the largest interior design trade fair in the Middle East and Asia. The trade fair took place, for the eighteenth time, in the Dubai International Exhibition Centre.
