CITY OF SEOUL OPENS SEOUL DESIGN FOUNDATION

Seoul (South Korea) - On March 3, the Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the opening ceremony of the new Seoul Design Foundation (SDF). At the ceremony, Mayor Oh announced that the new organisation will provide comprehensive and systematic support for Seoul's design industry.

Appointed CEO and Managing Director for the SDF is Icsid Executive Board Member, Jae-jin Shim, who has served as the Executive Vice President at KOASWELL Co., Ltd. from 2008-2009, and as the Chief of Digital Display & Media Design Laboratory at the Corporate Design Center of LG Electronics Inc. from 2000-2007.

In order to develop new growth engines and increase the city's competitiveness in the long term, design has to be fostered now. When the economy recovers, the design industry would be in full bloom, Oh said. "In this respect, the newly launched foundation will be a vanguard for design Seoul," he added.

Mayor Oh added that the Seoul Design Foundation will lend expertise and boost efficiency promoting the design sector in the city, including the 2010 World Design Capital year of events and the opening of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in 2011.
