Beijing (China) - The 2009 China Red Star Design Award call for online applications closed successfully on 30 June 2009. With products from public devices, communications, electronics, home living, souvenirs, gifts, lighting and transportation tools, there were nearly 4000 entries submitted to this year's Icsid endorsed event. These submissions came from 61.8% of the administrative districts in China, totaling a population of 980 million people.

A large number of new domestic faces appeared this year, including enterprises from the Taiwan area. Likewise, the number of entries increased by almost 1000.

The first screening will be held in late July, the second screening will take place during the Icograda World Design Congress 2009 this October and the award ceremony and yearbook publication will take place in November.

Since 2007, Red Star has launched large scale touring exhibitions in many foreign countries and domestic cities including South Korea, Tianjin, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Fuzhou, enhancing the communication of design companies and enterprises as well as spreading design ideas. Many local enterprises have come to recognise the significance of industrial design to the value of products and have actively participated in Red Star. As a melting pot of national design innovation, Red Star will sail into Qingdao, Ningbo, Hangzhou, Shunde in the second half of this year.
