CITY MOVE INTERDESIGN - MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

Gällivare (Sweden) - Three months following City Move Icsid Interdesign – the workshop has already started a new positive process in the Municipality of Gällivare - the community is starting a development programme, which has secured partial funding from a local stakeholder. More information will be available about this progress in September, 2009.

Icsid Promotional Member and Interdesign hosts, The Swedish Industrial Design Foundation (SVID) have been continually involved with the community of Gällivare, since the Icsid Interdesign Workshop ended in April 2009 and have been assisting in their fundraising endeavours to the European Union and Swedish Government, in an attempt to implement possible workshop findings and potential solutions to this vast problem.

Interdesign participants continue to stay connected from their corners of the globe to contribute further knowledge, findings, research and experience to the problem, via an online discussion group. In parallel to this progress, SVID continue to undertake their post-event evaluation, which includes the review of over 4,000 files created during the workshop containing; documents, drawings, materials, models and other work formats produced by the participants - to make recommendations for the future of Gällivare and to other communities globally who are faced with similar challenges. Following the workshop and its findings, the Interdesign subject will expand to include: "how to move societies" and involve design processes, with a focus on the community and people.

During the six months following an Icsid Interdesign, host organisers complete an evaluation of the workshop. The documentary film footage of the Swedish Interdesign process is intended to be edited by fall, 2009. A short summary film of the workshop is planned to be screened at the Icsid General Assembly  of members in Singapore, November 2009.

An additional component of the post-Interdesign work undertaken by SVID includes the Knowledge Centre planning and implementation. In August 2009, the centre-planning phase is intended to be complete. The knowledge centre can be used by community of Gällivare and other global communities affected by similar problems and in search of possible solutions.
