Dongguan City (China) - On 25 August 2009, with a full day of 4-round-review, the shortlist of 250 products for 2009 Dongguan Cup International Industrial Design Awards Open Group first screening was announced. This year marks the greatest number of international submissions to date.

The 2009 call for entries for this Icsid endorsed event ran from 19 May - 18 August, bringing in 2214 submissions (784 electronic information products, 1069 home appliance, 201 toy products, 59 given topic one products, and 101 given topic two products). Since its debut in 2005, the 2009 Dongguan Cup Awards received the largest number of overseas participants to date. Totalling 63, these submissions came from countries and areas out of mainland China, such as the United States, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Israel, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

The announcement of shortlisted entries was made by the 2009 jury, composed of eight design experts: Mr. Jin Jae Han, Prof. Chen Hanqing, Prof. Tang Chongxi, Prof. Yang Xiangdong, Prof. Jiang Wen, Mr. Zhou Hongshi, Mr. Wang Shuicai and Mr. Li Jiaju.

All shortlisted products are now available at www.dgdesign.org.cn for public review and unanimous internet voting. (The internet voting results for reference only and shall have no effect in relation to the judging.)
