In preparation for the City Move Interdesign 2009, the Swedish Industrial Design Foundation (SVID) organised a student workshop in August in Gellivare. Over the period of one month, six students from different design schools will collaborate with a professional designer and a social scientist in an attempt to gather background information on the merits that Gellivare has to offer - what do citizens appreciate most, what would encourage others to visit? Local volunteers of all ages will be encouraged to participate in this initial research.
The workshop will also attempt to identify both new and more traditional buildings to be included in the Interdesign discussion. Information on these buildings will become part of the materials gathered for the development of the knowledge centre. Results of the workshop will be presented locally to the Interdesign organisers on August 29th.
The application period for the Interdesign is now over and the selection process for participants has begun. More than 175 applications have been received from interested individuals from all over the world. "We are very happy that the subject has created such interest and are looking forward to the next period," stated event organiser Claes Frossen, head of creative industry relations and special projects.
