World Industrial Design Day 2011
How has the discipline of industrial design impacted the way you lead your life? In celebration of the 4th annual World Industrial Design Day on 29 June 2011, the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) invites designers and design enthusiasts from around the globe to spread awareness and initiate events reflecting this years theme:
Industrial Design: How does it improve your life?
Selected by the Icsid Executive Board, this theme was chosen to gain the public's perspective on how industrial design impacts their daily lives. Furthermore, by asking the question "How does industrial design improve your life?" Icsid aims to start a public conversation that will showcase and bring awareness to the crucial and ever-present work being achieved by industrial designers throughout the world.
Australia
Show and tell me design is a social event featuring a panel of Adelaide's leading designers discussing popular designs and their merits. Guests are encouraged to bring along images of a product they think is an example of either good or bad design and join in the global discussion on World Industrial Design Day.

Design Droplets and Interphase Design present "Industrial Design: In the future, where to from here?", an interactive panel led discussion to celebrate World Industrial Design Day 2011 and explore the future of the Industrial Design & Product Development professions in Australia.

From prosthetics to bicycles designed to bring water into poor villages, industrial designers work with engineers, accountants and marketers to turn great ideas into life-changing products. This helps improve the economic, social, cultural and environmental quality of people's lives. The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) is celebrating World Industrial Design Day to recognize the importance of Canadian industrial designs.

Duoc UC celebrated World Industrial Design Day by presenting an exhibition of 20 projects developed by alumni of the industrial design department. It was followed by a panel of 6 invited guests to discuss of how design can improve lives, along with a presentation of industrial design in Brazil on developing products and equipments.

Pastodiseña, an industrial designers collective with the colaboration of I.D. students from the Universidad de Nariño, wants to commemorate this important date by holding a public exhibition named "Industrial Design: How to improve your life?" The exhibition is scheduled from Tuesday July 5th to Saturday July 9 at the Plaza de Nariño (San Juan de Pasto Main Square) and will be traveling around differents sites of the city all year.

The Association of Designers of India (ADI) Pune Chapter will be holding an event in 29 June, with an introduction and launch of the ADI Pune Chapter, a keynote address and a panel discussion "Key challenges for Indian cities that can be overcome thru Design". They will also show a screening of the film "Objectified". The event will take place from 17:30-20:00.

The Industrial Design division of Tata Elxsi, celebrated World Industrial Design Day 2011 (WIDD) with the launch of 'connect D', an annual event that endeavors to create a platform to engage with future designers. Students from leading design schools including NID, NIFT, IISC, Raffles design and NTFF participated in the event.

The Cultural & Art Research Institute has intentions to host the 4th World Industrial Design Day in Iran. Alongside with all universities offering industrial design course. This institute intends to introduce itself as a member of Iranian industrial design society. Therefore, the ceremony will hold at cultural & art research institute attending academic and professional members of society in Tehran. The ceremony venue is a historical building in Tehran that is 150 years old.

On 29 June, the University TIAU (Tabriz Islamic Art University) decided to do a simple WIDD celebration with some people who are around. There were approximately 200 wire-frame packaging for sphere chocolates that all made by TIAU ID students. A paper ribbon was attached to each one with: "Design creates culture. Culture shapes values. Values determine the future. (Robert L. Peters)". Afterward, students presented the chocolates to passerbys to introducing industrial design through a gift.

The Dublin Institute of Technology and the G6 Series together with Pivot Dublin present World Industrial Design Day in association with Icsid. On 29 June 2011 a workshop will be held in The School of Art Design and Printing, DIT, Mountjoy Square, Dublin 1 from 09:30 to 17:00. They will be examining this question under the four themes from Pivot Dublin: Connecting Cities, Making Cities Lighter, Making Cities Flow and Making Cities Smile. The event is free, designers and anyone interested in design is welcome.

The city of Bilbao will be holding several events during 29 June, including a presentation and exhibition of the Videogame Festival, the release of 4500 signed balloons from citizens at Bizkaia Plaza, and an exhibition of the first intercity electric passenger minibus in Europe.

The ETMK İzmir Branch will organise a walk to raise the awareness of the local society on Industrial Design/ers, in the context of 29 June. The walk will start at Konak Square at 7:30pm and will end at Alsancak, Gündoğdu Square at 8:30pm. A dinner will follow at 9:00pm at Alin's Restaurant.

"NoMATERIA: more disclosure, less atoms" is a viral action that seeks to explain to people the importance of industrial design. Does your neighbour know who and how to design a product? Or how about the supplier, your aunt or your doctor? Use all media knowledge to spread this idea. We expect all our friends from the press or software engineers to support this initiative. "NoMATERIA: more disclosure, less atoms" will also be a digital display of what occurs in industrial design in Venezuela on 29th of June on the blog.
