World Industrial Design Day 2012
This year marks the 5th anniversary since the inception of World Industrial Design Day, which was created in 2007 on the occasion of Icsid's 50th anniversary. Icsid sent out a global call to ask one simple question - What is industrial design?
The one-minute video was scripted with the help of YouTube videos that design professionals, students and enthusiasts uploaded after accepting Icsid’s video challenge to define industrial design in 10 seconds or less.

World Industrial Design Day 2012 events
The Design Institute of Australia's Student Council will be holding an even on 29 June where leading product design luminaries will share their personal account of "Industrial Design is...". It is open to design professionals, graduates, students and enthusiasts.

South Australian designers will celebrate World Industrial Design Day (WIDD) with the DIA SA Branch on Friday, 29 June. The night will feature an interactive debate around the topic "What is industrial design?" with a panel of prominent South Australian designers, and a student run competition with a prize.
Held at the Mountain Goat Brewery, over 70 designers celebrated World Industrial Design Day in style. Organised by the Industrial Design Practice Group (part of the Design Institute of Australia), special coasters and buttons were created for the event.
On 29 June, students of the Master and Bachelor Degree of Industrial Design at FH Joanneum, University of Applied Sciences Graz, present their latest projects and theses at designforum Steiermark. The annual degree show displays approaches to product design and transportation exhibiting drafts, models and computer animated pictures.

On 29 June, students from universities and design schools in Beijing will visit the DRC Industrial Design Innovation Base which was established in 2006 by Beijing Industrial Design Center (BIDC) as a design incubator and design support platform. They will share information and opinions on industrial design by watching videos of design case studies, and attending lectures given by design professionals.
The Pavilion celebrates World Industrial Design Day with Industrial Designers Finland, which is a member organisation of the Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo. The theme of the day is "What is design", which will be approached through discussions and the new "Ajatuksia muotoilusta" (Thoughts on Design) pamphlet published by Industrial Designers Finland. New honorary members of the organisation will also be announced at the event.

On 29 June 2012, the Hungarian Design Council and Forum Hungaricum invited Zuzanna Skalska trend researcher and strategist, a key actor of the European design scene to hold a presentation. In addition to presenting international design trends, Zuzanna Skalska will also discuss Slow Design, the focal topic of Budapest Design Week this year.

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of World Industrial Design Day, Vidya Darshan RanaCharitable Trust in alliance with S.S. Rana & Co. will be organising "Creatio" the First All India National Design Competition.
Tata Elxsi has launched "IGNITE 2012 - Design Contest", a contest that endeavors to provide a platform for future designers to develop ideas that will reshape the future. The contest is a part of 'connect D' - an annual event organised by Tata Elxsi to commemorate the World Industrial Design Day.
Association of Designers of India (ADI), Pune Chapter, and the leading media group, Sakai, announced Generation D, an initiative of introducing the concept of "Design" to school children to celebrate World Industrial Design Day on 29 June 2012. The ADI team aims to connect with 20 leading schools in Pune, where Pune Chapter members will volunteer to spend an hour taking 8th/9th std students through an interactive module on Design followed by QA session.
The Institute of Culture, Arts and Architecture in Iran will be holding a reception for World Industrial Design Day, including lectures on design, a book launch on industrial design in the region, music, and a lecture on strategic planning.
TABRIZID.com will hold a celebration of World Industrial Design Day by bringing together 48 industrial design students, who will be divided into three groups that will spread across the city to introduce people to the profession. The introduction will include a small booklet with a simple definition of industrial design and an item, a clothing pin, to leave a lasting impression of what industrial design is. Students will wear bracelets of the same design in different colors to show a unified identity.
The seminar, New Models in a Post Industrial World, is organised by Crafts Council of Ireland and National Craft Gallery in response to the current exhibition, Between Art & Industry. The programme examines how traditional and contemporary craft practices are evolving production models in the post-industrial context of the 21st Century. New Models in a Post Industrial World is programmed to coincide with this year's World Industrial Design Day.

Scuola Italiana Design, for World Industrial Design Day, asks everybody for a brief video-interview to talk about design and creativity in their lives. A compilation video will be created especially for 29 June.
The Politecnico di Torino, Istituto d'Arte Applicata e Design (IAAD), Associazione per il Designo Industriale (ADI), and Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) will be hosting a number of events for World Industrial Design Day including lecture sessions, a theatre piece, an industrial design exhibition and celebration of the new headquarters of IAAD Lavazza.
The Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, in Paraguay, will be planning an exposition with panels that answer the questions of "What is industrial design?" and "How industrial design can improve your life?". A local poster competition will also be held in which the winning poster will be used for the event.
The National Council of Industrial Designers of the Philippines (NCIDP) will host "6.29 World Industrial Design Day (Philippines). Lead & Change by Design" awareness event in Manila. Plans include design talks, a spontaneous design competition between industrial design schools, Pecha Kuchas, a screen of the film "Objectified" and many other activities.
The City of Cape Town will be hosting a signing ceremony and dinner on 29 June to celebrate their host city agreement for World Design Capital 2014.
Taiwan (Chinese Taipei)
To celebrate the 5th anniversary of World Industrial Design Day, Taipei City and Taiwan Design Center will hold a series of commemorative events from 29 June to 1 July, such as OPEN HOUSE at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, as well as a Facebook check-in campaign that includes 26 municipal cultural sites and 34 design stores. A 'Designers Night' party will also be held on 29 June, when designers will share their ideas on design with the public.
A gathering of ETMK members will be held to discuss projects on World Industrial Design Day, followed by a garden party. Discussions will also include talks of the 2013 IDA Congress, which will be held in Istanbul next year.
Agenda de Diseño, in collaboration with Puro Diseño, is calling all Venezuelan designers, of any branch to send a 10 second video answering "What is industrial design?". A short film made from the best answers will be uploaded to Puro Diseño's YouTube and Vimeo Channels (Purodisenovzla) and starting on 28 June. The video will also be screened in several schools around the country.
The Industrial Design school students of the University of the Andes (Universidad de los Andes) Mérida - Venezuela, celebrate for the first time World Industrial Design Day and will organise an event called "Hola Diseño!" (Hi design), in which they will be hosting different activities such as an expo, video conference, contestments and transmission of a short documentary regarding the industries in the region.
